Most weeks the weekends are taken a month or more ahead, while the weeknights stay open until the last few days. That is why we discount them at the last minute rather than let them sit empty, and it is also why midweek guests get the best version of the farm: fewer cars at the gate, the animals less fussed over, and the fire and the view to yourselves.
The hinterland is quieter too. Maleny’s main street and the dairies without the weekend queue, Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve’s rainforest walk almost empty, Gardners Falls to yourselves, and Australia Zoo, 15 minutes away, on a weekday outside school holidays. The sunsets over the Glass House Mountains are the same every night of the week.
It suits couples who can take a Tuesday and Wednesday off, parents with children not yet at school, grandparents, shift workers and anyone within an hour or two who sees a gap in the diary and a gap in our calendar. We are about an hour north of Brisbane and 35 minutes from the beach, so a two-night midweek break does not cost a day of driving.
